About KAPMI

Kateel Ashok Pai Memorial Institutes (KAPMI) is a group of institutions started by Manasa Trust, Shivamogga. Late. Dr. K. A. Ashok Pai was an internationally renowned community psychiatrist, writer, filmmaker, philanthropist, and a pioneer in mental health. KAPMI (Affiliated to Kuvempu University and recognized by the Govt. of Karnataka) was started in memory of this great visionary, aiming to provide higher education in psychology, humanities, science, and commerce to build a healthier society.
KAPMI was established as a degree college in Shivamogga as a unit of Manasa Trust and later renamed as Kateel Ashok Pai Memorial College (KAPMC). It now offers multidisciplinary degree programmes such as BA, BSW, B.Sc, B.Com, and BCA. A major milestone was when Kuvempu University permitted KAPMC to offer the M.Sc Psychology course.

Kuvempu University has recognized KAPMC as a Research Center in Psychology to offer Ph.D. programmes. KAPMC, located in the heart of Shivamogga city, is easily accessible and offers an enriching academic environment with spacious classrooms, a modern library, computer and psychology labs, and student-friendly amenities.
Kateel Ashok Pai Memorial Institute of Allied Health Sciences (KAPMIAHS) was started in 2019 with approval from RGUHS to offer M.Sc in Clinical Psychology. Later, the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) granted permission to start the M.Phil in Clinical Psychology Programme in 2022. In 2024, the Kateel Ashok Pai Memorial Institute of Nursing was established, affiliated with RGUHS, Bengaluru.

The Library of Kateel Ashok Pai Memorial Institutes (KAPMI) serves as a vital academic resource center, supporting teaching, learning, and research across all disciplines of the institution. It provides a rich collection of textbooks, reference works, research journals, periodicals, and digital resources that cater to the needs of students, faculty, and researchers.

The Manoloka Granthalaya (KAPMI Library) books are classified according to the Dewey Decimal Classification system and are fully automated using the Koha Integrated Library Management System (ILMS), ensuring efficient cataloguing, circulation, and access to resources. It also provides digital and online learning materials, helping users stay connected with global academic developments.
With a peaceful and well-equipped reading environment, internet-enabled computers, and support from qualified library staff, the Manoloka Granthalaya fosters an atmosphere of inquiry, creativity, and lifelong learning. It stands as a center of knowledge dedicated to promoting academic excellence and a strong research culture within the institute.

Library Advisory Committee (LAC)

The role of the Library Advisory Committee (LAC) is to make recommendations concerning library needs, including policy matters, collections, services, and facilities. The committee meets twice a year at the beginning of each semester.

  • Facilitate coordination between Students & Faculty and the library.
  • Participate in meetings with the librarian regarding library-related issues.
  • Help recommend new books, journals, and magazines.
  • Provide advice and feedback on library matters.

General Instraction

Eligibility for Membership

  • All Students, Faculty members, supporting staff of the KAPMI.

Procedure for Enrollment

  • Library Membership Form will be issued by the librarian during library hours.
  • Submit the membership form along with 2 stamp-size photographs to the librarian.
  • Newly joined staff will get library cards upon showing their identity cards or appointment orders.
  • Borrowing facilities are given only to members against Borrower’s Ticket/Card.

General Rules

  • Using mobile phones and audio instruments (with or without speaker/headphones) is strictly prohibited in the library.
  • Identity Card is compulsory to access the library.
  • Enter your name and sign in the register at the entrance counter before entering the library.
  • No personal belongings allowed except purses and notebooks; deposit them at the property counter.
  • Maintain silence within the library premises.
  • Eating, loud conversation, chewing, or similar objectionable acts are strictly prohibited.
  • Borrowers are responsible for any damage or mutilation of documents; report any damage to library staff.
  • Library staff may check any user for documents brought into or taken out of the library.
  • Readers are liable for punishment/fine if found misbehaving or damaging library property.
  • Do not re-shelf books/journals; leave them on the table. Library staff will re-shelf them.
  • Readers shall behave in a civilized manner; the librarian may expel anyone disturbing peace.
  • Contravention of rules may entail suspension/cancellation of membership.
  • No dues certificate will be given until all books, tickets, and dues are returned.

Circulation Rules

  • All members should display their college ID card when issuing or returning books.
  • Library will issue 6 books to Faculty members for 30 days. Must return before vacation.
  • PG Students: 4 books for 10 days; UG Students: 3 books for 10 days. Must return before exams.
  • Every member shall present their own borrower’s ticket before any book is issued.
  • New books can only be issued after technical processing.
  • Reference, rare, and unbounded periodicals may not be issued without librarian’s permission.
  • Members may refer books in library only after presenting ID card.
  • Student cannot be issued the same book returned on the same date.
  • No faculty/student can take two books of the same title and author.
  • Faculty issued books only for assigned subjects.
  • Students should deposit the prescribed amount to retain books for exams. Refund after returning books.
  • Librarian can refuse or recall any book without assigning any reason.
