The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides an opportunity to the student youth to take part in various government-led community service activities and programmes. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide students with hands-on experience in community service.

• The Konark wheel in the NSS badge having 8 bars signifies the 24 hours of the day.
• The Red colour signifies the energy and spirit displayed by the NSS volunteers.
• The Navy Blue colour signifies the cosmos, of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute to the welfare of mankind.

Aims and Objectives of NSS

Aim: Development of the personality of students through community service.

Objectives:

• To understand the community and themselves in relation to it.
• To identify community needs and involve in problem-solving exercises.
• To develop a sense of social and civic responsibility.
• To utilize their knowledge in practical community problem-solving.
• To gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
• To acquire leadership qualities and democratic values.
• To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
• To practice national integration and social harmony.

NSS attempts to establish meaningful linkages between ‘Campus and Community’, ‘College and Village’ and ‘Knowledge and Action’.
