About the Department

The Department of Psychology at the undergraduate level is dedicated to fostering scientific understanding of human behaviour and mental processes. The department aims to develop students intellectual curiosity, analytical thinking, and empathy while providing a foundation in both theoretical and applied areas of psychology. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Health Psychology, and Research Methodology. It is designed to help students understand the biological, cognitive, emotional, and social bases of behaviour through lectures, experiments, and hands-on activities.

Students are encouraged to apply psychological principles to everyday life, promoting personal growth, interpersonal effectiveness, and social responsibility. The department also organizes seminars, workshops, guest lectures, field visits, and mental health awareness programs to enhance experiential learning and professional readiness. Students can choose between the B.A. and B.Sc. programs in Psychology, with Psychology serving as the common core subject in both streams. Graduates of the department pursue higher studies in Clinical Psychology, Counselling, Human Resource Management, Education, and Research, or build careers in mental health centres, schools, hospitals, NGOs, and corporate sectors.

The Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Psychology at Kateel Ashok Pai Memorial College is a distinguished centre for advanced learning, clinical training, and psychological research. Established with the vision of promoting mental health and scientific inquiry, the department offers M.Sc. in Psychology (Clinical Psychology and Corporate Psychology) blending theory, research, and clinical practice. The programs are designed to prepare students for roles in clinical practice, counselling, teaching, and psychological research, with a strong focus on mental health promotion and community service.

The department functions in close collaboration with Manasa Hospital providing students with hands-on clinical exposure, supervised practice, and interdisciplinary learning opportunities. Faculty members with rich academic and clinical expertise mentor students through coursework, field training, research projects, and dissertation work, ensuring holistic professional development.   • Tools like Ryff Psychological Well-Being Scale and the WHO Quality of Life Scale explore holistic mental health and life satisfaction, while the Resilience Scale and Cohen Perceived Stress Scale assess coping capacity and stress perception. For workplace psychology, the Maslach Burnout Inventory, Organizational Culture Scale, Occupational Stress Index, and Work Motivation Questionnaire offer insights into professional well-being, motivation, and environment. Personality assessments such as the 16 PF Questionnaire, FIRO-B, and Eysenck's Personality Inventory (EPI) enhance self-awareness and interpersonal understanding. Clinical and diagnostic tools like the Obsessional Compulsive Inventory-Revised (OCI-R), Beck Depression Inventory, and IPAT Anxiety Scale provide clarity in identifying and addressing psychological concerns.
