The Department of Social Work is one of the most dynamic and socially engaged departments of the college, dedicated to nurturing compassionate, skilled, and socially responsible professionals. Established with the vision of promoting human welfare and social justice, the department provides students with the knowledge, values, and competencies essential for professional social work practice. The curriculum blends theory, fieldwork, research, and community engagement, offering a strong foundation in areas such as Human Behaviour, Social Case Work, Group Work, Community Organization, Social Welfare Administration, Social Policy, and Research Methodology. Students are trained to understand social issues and to work effectively with individuals, groups, and communities.
Through field practicum, internships, extension activities, and rural/urban camps, students gain hands-on experience in real-world social settings, collaborating with NGOs, government agencies, hospitals, schools, and industries. Graduates of the department are well-prepared for careers in social welfare organizations, healthcare, counselling, human resources, community development, and research.
Jnana Sudhe is a forum of social work students, started with the objective to facilitate knowledge exchange and build a supportive community for collaboration and advocacy. The forum mainly focuses on organizing programs that help students build professional skills such as communication, leadership, critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving which are vital in the present context. It also creates a safe space to explore opportunities for social justice and community engagement, including organizing health-related camps, conducting rural surveys, rural exposure camps, and observing important days like World Mental Health Day, Suicide Prevention Day, and Human Rights Day.
These activities help develop empathetic understanding of social issues. Students gain practical exposure to diverse fields of social work, enabling them to identify their interest areas and choose appropriate specializations in higher education.
